Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear pupils,
Today is the celebration of Thanksgiving in the USA. In Canada, Thanksgiving was celebrated on October 14th.
Originally, Thanksgiving was a day to celebrate the harvest* or to give thanks for good health after a war. Today, American families gather* together every year on the third Thursday of November (or on the second Monday of October in Canada) to eat a very big meal and think about everything they are thankful* for.
For the Thanksgiving meal, people usually eat a huge* meal that includes turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.
*the harvest = la moisson *gather = se réunir * thankful = reconnaissant * huge = énorme,
